Frequently Asked Questions
MagmaTherm Furnaces can be used in many applications which requiring high temperature, more commonly used in laboratory applications.
Your furnace may have been used for many years. In this case, the heating elements have begun to lose their properties and the heating capacities may be reduced.
The furnace may not be calibrated at the proper temperature and may indicate different temperatures than it should be. For this reason, the value read on the control unit may not be what it should be.
The fact that the furnace temperature is constantly changes and not constant at a certain temperature range shows that the control unit couldn’t designed and manufactured with the required precision. Such problems are minimized on PID controlled temperature control units.
Laboratory Furnaces are devices where the temperature increase is not desired to be fast depending on the usage areas (each process can show different features). Besides, furnaces reach the heating rate values which specified in their catalogs only after a period of working, due to gaseous discharge of flammable and volatile substances in the insulation.
Apart from all this information, if the furnace you buy by looking at the heating rate is not as fast as it needs to be heat, there may be a fault in the design of the furnace heating elements and temperature control unit.
The outer surface of the furnace, especially the furnace door is too hot that I even can’t touch it.
When designing the doors of the furnaces, the dynamics of the escaping heat must be considered and the cross-sectional areas of the heat bridges inevitable in the construction must be minimized.
The thickness of the insulation used should be selected based on the heat loss calculations. Otherwise, the cover of your oven may become hot during prolonged use. In such cases, there may be danger or discomfort for the user. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the door design when choosing the furnace.
MagmaTherm Standard Series Furnace Software (PID) updates are made at regular intervals depending on user suggestions and requests.
We always pay attention to ensure the development of the furnace’s purpose and usage. With this purpose, we apply updates which will not cause compliance problems to your MagmaTherm Standard Series Furnace for free.

Important Information about Laboratory Furnaces
Ash Content Determination is made to find the amount of inorganic matter contained in products which has organic matter in their structure. During this process, applications are made up to 1200°C. The devices used for this purpose are called Ash Furnace.
Laboratory Type Furnace also called as Table Top (Bench Type) Furnace, Ash Furnace, Chamber Furnace, Muffle Furnace, Tube Furnace, is basically composed of electronic temperature control unit, electrically operated heating elements, heater inner chamber and isolation sections.
The working principle is based on heating the air inside the furnace with the help of heating elements. The temperature control is done with an electronic PID control unit in the furnaces where it is important to precisely adjust the temperature. There is no cooling system in such furnaces, cooling can be done with a fan system which is not very powerful. At the same time, the fan system can be connected to a chimney system so that the various gases, fumes and steam occurred in the furnace are transmitted to the chimney.
Laboratory Type Furnaces can be designed to have maximum operating temperatures between 600°C – 1750°C, mostly between 900°C and 1200°C are used. Because of the insulation applied due to the maximum operating temperatures, the internal volume of the furnaces is small and the external volume is wider than the inner chamber. The internal volume of the Laboratory Type Furnaces can vary from 1 liter to 100 liters depending on the intended use.
They are the names given to the High Temperature Furnaces used in the laboratory for various purposes. Muffle Furnace is the name given to the types commonly used in dentistry and dental laboratories.
Heat treatment is the process of change the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of metals by controlled heating and cooling. Laboratory Furnaces, especially those that do not have a controlled cooling system, can be partially used as a Heat Treatment Furnace if conditions permit.
For this reason, it is possible to apply heat treatment such as tempering, stress relieving, hardening and brazing annealing, nitriding, forging soldering/welding processes on sample basis and small materials.
Laboratory Type Furnaces (Chamber Furnaces / Ash Furnaces) are used for the heating of small pieces to high temperatures, mostly in laboratory applications for testing and analysis purposes.
Some of usage sectors can be listed as follows;
Ceramic, Hard Soldering, Heat Treatment, Automotive, Aerospace, Coal and Mine, Petrochemical, Plastic, Electronics, Glass, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Food, Medicine, Dentistry, Nuclear, Education, University, Materials Testing and Quality Control.
The most important factor determining the choice of Laboratory furnace (Ash Furnace / Muffle Furnace / Chamber Furnace) is purpose of use the furnace. Purpose of Use is important to determine the maximum operating temperature of the furnace and the size of the inner chamber which is the heating area.
The physical and technical characteristics of the furnace should be explicated after the appropriate working temperature and appropriate working volume are determined. At this stage, insulation, heating elements, electronic temperature control and furnace ergonomics should be considered.
Isolation in Laboratory Furnace (Ash Furnace / Muffle Furnace / Chamber Furnace) Selection
When choosing a laboratory furnace, the points to note about insulation are summarized below;
It is an important point that the insulation is suitable for maximum working temperature. The insulation must be at the optimum thickness in order to ensure that the furnace heat loss and thus the electricity consumption is kept to a minimum and that the heat generation at the surface will not jeopardize the operational safety of the surface.
In furnaces where the insulation thickness is not sufficient, a large number of ventilation hole are encountered in order to keep the surface temperatures low. Therefore, an excessive number of ventilation holes on the surface of the furnace are an indication that the insulation is insufficient. Also cover insulation and cover design are an important factor in overheating of the cover.
MagmaTherm Insulation
In MagmaTherm Furnaces insulation is chosen in accordance with the maximum operating temperatures and it’s used in the appropriate thickness. In this way, minimum temperatures are reached on the surface of the furnace and using the oven is getting easier.
The original cover design also causes a minimum of heating on the furnace door. Because of the proper design and optimum insulation thickness, a small number of ventilation holes is required on the surface of MagmaTherm Furnaces.
Heating Elements in Laboratory Furnace (Ash Furnace / Muffle Furnace / Chamber Furnace) Selection
One of the most important items determining the heating performance of laboratory furnace is the selection of the appropriate resistance wire and the correct design of the resistances according to the furnace.
MagmaTherm Heating Elements
MagmaTherm Furnaces use resistance wires that have been proven worldwide. The correct design of the heating elements is an important part of the effective performance of our furnaces.
Electronic Control Unit in Laboratory Furnace (Ash Furnace / Muffle Furnace / Chamber Furnace) Selection
Our own electronic control units used in MagmaTherm Furnaces are very effective in controlling the temperature. In addition, a variety of features have been adapted on our PID control units with recommendations and requests from end users.

Ergonomics in Laboratory Furnace (Ash Furnace / Muffle Furnace / Chamber Furnace) Selection
Furnaces that facilitate user’s work, increase efficiency and provide safe operation at high level are preferred by users.
MagmaTherm Ergonomics
When choosing a furnace, firstly security criteria should be considered. Such as, whether the grounding is properly done or not, audible and visual warnings that the furnace will show in case of any malfunction, automatic cut-off the heating, temperatures at the furnace surface when the desired temperatures are reached are important for safety.
Before these features are checked, during the selection of the furnace, Depending on the intended use, the inner chamber volume of the furnace, the maximum working temperature and the continuous working temperature must be taken into consideration. At this point, insulation, the suitability of the heating elements and the capacity of the control unit to control the temperature are important.
Warranty - Support - Technical Service
Selling the products that we trust is one of our important principles in the direction of our goals. The most important step in creating a reliable product is the use of reliable raw materials and reliable components.
Based on this principle, MagmaTherm furnaces have 2 Year Manufacturer Company Guarantee (except for Consumables and Heating Elements) against all kinds of production and workmanship mistakes.
Insulation bricks and quartz glass tubes in the inner chamber can be broken by any intervention. Hit, crush, etc. deformations may occur in the furnace. Electronic circuits can be damaged because the furnace is connected to the mains voltage of 380V instead of 280V. In these and similar cases, malfunction, deformation and damage that may be caused by user errors are not covered by the Warranty. Please check the Warranty Conditions from here.
MagmaTherm Laboratory Furnaces produced by Tetra Isı Sistemleri are started-up by Authorized Dealers upon end-user requests. Thus begins the warranty period. The products liability for use is the user firm responsibility from this moment. For this reason, the periodical maintenance of the products must be done by the end-user. Routine controls for periodic maintenance should be regularly performed on a quarterly basis.
The steps to be followed for maintenance are listed below;
- All the cables that connected to the mains the voltage should be checked for damage.
- If any damage is noticed, our company should be informed.
- After ensuring that the mains voltage cable is disconnected, the control unit should be unscrewed and the inside of the electronic control unit must be cleaned with air (non-high-pressure) or vacuum.
- When the furnace is running, it should be checked that the mains voltage cable is not overheated and if it is overheated our company should be notified.
- Check the underneath and around of your furnace for are there any objects that prevents the furnace ventilation.
- Make sure your furnace is installed in the installation conditions specified in the user’s manual (there should be no obstacles to ventilation near of your furnace at least 30 cm).
- Check whether the fan installed on the chimney is working or not, if it is not working our company should be notified.
- Make sure that the area where the furnace is operated is providing ventilation conditions. Because the materials that you heat by putting in your furnace can produce harmful or disturbing gases at high temperatures.
