Laboratory Type Furnace also called as Table Top (Bench Type) Furnace, Ash Furnace, Chamber Furnace, Muffle Furnace, Tube Furnace, is basically composed of electronic temperature control unit, electrically operated heating elements, heater inner chamber and isolation sections.

The working principle is based on heating the air inside the furnace with the help of heating elements. The temperature control is done with an electronic PID control unit in the furnaces where it is important to precisely adjust the temperature. There is no cooling system in such furnaces, cooling can be done with a fan system which is not very powerful. At the same time, the fan system can be connected to a chimney system so that the various gases, fumes and steam occurred in the furnace are transmitted to the chimney.

Laboratory Type Furnaces can be designed to have maximum operating temperatures between 600°C – 1750°C, mostly between 900°C and 1200°C are used. Because of the insulation applied due to the maximum operating temperatures, the internal volume of the furnaces is small and the external volume is wider than the inner chamber. The internal volume of the Laboratory Type Furnaces can vary from 1 liter to 100 liters depending on the intended use.
